For over three decades, we've collaborated with the renowned Abraham Moon mill in Yorkshire to beautifully blend British design with true British craftsmanship. Find out how we work together to create contemporary clothing, which showcases their expertly crafted wool checks and tweeds.
It all starts with a journey. Taking our designers from London to Guiseley in West Yorkshire, where Abraham Moon has been located since 1837. Together, we share inspiration and browse the archives, before selecting the final colours and patterns that will be exclusive to Hobbs.
Making the fabric is a meticulous step-by-step process that begins with dyeing the wool. One yarn alone can require up to seven coloured wools blended together to give it a rich hue. It's then washed, spun into yarn, warped and then woven into fabric on automatic looms.
In our London studio, the designers consider how to showcase each pattern. A tartan may be cut on the bias to lend a playfulness. Contrast panelling could be added for a hint of modernity. Each design is then brought to life by our expert pattern cutters and machinists in our very own atelier. Timeless jackets, dresses and skirts that you'll want to wear, season after season.
